The first stop on our World Cup trip was Norway (followed by Finland and then Russia). I heard it was good for Gluten Free and both Oslo and Bergen were great!
Tip: gluten free in Norwegian = glutenfri (easy enough!). We also used this restaurant card in Norwegian.
Number one recommendation: try SOFTIS! aka soft serve ice cream from a convenience store like 7-Eleven or Narvesen. All toppings were gluten free except Oreo and essentially they take your soft serve (in a dish) and roll it in one topping. Daniel loved hazelnuts and I loved the orange cream sprinkles. SO good!

Restaurant Chains with GF:
- McDonald’s – similar to Finland, Norwegian McDonald’s offers gluten free options! The bun is great, fries are GF, and even hashbrowns!
- Peppe’s Pizza – a chain known for being celiac-safe with their GF crust. We were so jet lagged when we arrived, that our AirBnb host helped us get it delivered (a fun Google Translate exercise).
- Baker Hansen – amazing selection of glutenfri artisinal breads and pastries – just make sure the worker uses the separate GF tongs! (And it was the only place I found kombucha!)
- Egon – a little more expensive, but they have a GF menu (not in English so bring your phone). We had great burgers here!

Bergen – we loved eating at the Fish Market in Bergen. The largest king crab we’d ever seen! We had scallops, king crab, lobster, paella and almost every vendor had an allergy list posted.
Grocery Stores:
- Remy 1000 – great gluten free selection (look for a separate section)
- Joker – great gluten free selection (look for a separate section)
- Kiwi (larger stores had a gf section)
